i am so far behind in doing this post. i had the opportunity to attend east henderson high school's graduation on june 10. the erwin family is amazing. their oldest son, stephen, was graduating! it was such an exciting night. i had so much fun documenting this chapter of his life. stephen will be attending unc wilmington this fall.

on the last day of the year, i braved some snow and ice and met up with a sweet couple, suzanne and jd. at the time, they were expecting their first little one in mid january. little did we all know that just 3 days after the photo shoot she would go into labor! here are some of the memorable shots that i captured before this family of 2 soon became a family of 3...

some close friends of ours (basically, stephen's big sister he never had and her husband) asked me to take some pictures of their sweet boy, evan. we met up at irmo town park and evan was loving that fact that he could run all around. he also liked pointing towards the sky when he heard loud noises because he thought it was an airplane. we were able to catch some good pictures before the sun went down.

i had the privilege of taking this sweet couple's engagement pictures a few weeks ago. we met up at clemson, where they both attend. pj proposed to taylor at the amphitheater near the center of campus, so it made the perfect backdrop to capture some pictures. they are both studying education and will graduate this may. they are planning a july wedding and i am trilled to death to be the photographer for their special day.

permanent reminders

a week ago stephen and i went and did something that we never thought we would do... for stephen's 27th birthday present he got a tattoo. and while we were there, i got one as well.

he did a blog post earlier about why we got them and what they mean, but i will briefly recap our story.

on my foot i got "thrive.139" - this is a response to natalie's failure to thrive diagnosis when she was a little over two months old. ever since that diagnosis, the word "thrive" has constantly been a reminder to me that natalie is thriving. every time natalie laughs, every time natalie says mama, dada, and waves bye-bye, every time natalie crawls and pulls herself up to stand - it is a beautiful blessing that reminds me that she is thriving. the second part of my tattoo comes from my most favorite psalm. within psalm 139, david talks about how God knew our shape and our frame before we were even formed in our mother's womb, and how we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. this verse reigns huge in my life because through it all, God has made natalie exactly how He wanted her to be.

the hebrew translation on stephen's forearm is for the phrase "greater things." this past year he as experienced some major life changes. the birth of our little girl last february and accepting the position of what he likes to call his dream job. we are constantly amazed by what God can do and is doing in our new city and our church. so, for stephen, this phrase not only describes the past year, but his entire life.

right before the Christmas holiday, each campus of newspring church partnered with a local school in need. our campus (columbia) went to harbison west elementary school and gave out over 450 pairs of new shoes. what a blessing to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our communities - the cool thing is, newspring as a whole gave out over 1,400 pairs of shoes in each of their individual communities. our volunteers got down on the floor and personally replaced their old shoes and socks with a brand new pair of each. the smiles, oh the smiles, wow! these kids were so excited to get a new pair of shoes... we know for a fact that these shoes were some kids' only Christmas present under their tree. here is a link to our local news station on the story they did about the event.

lauren is one of my dearest friends. the friend you can laugh with, cry with, make a complete idiot out of yourself with - yea, that's her. well, towards the end of the summer she asked me if i would take some photos for her for her prayer cards that she would be sending out in the fall. lauren will be going to mzuzu, malawi in early january. she has such a heart and calling towards missions in africa. she left in october and headed to the international mission board (IMB) for two months of training. she will be in malawi for two years teaching four missionary children. the family will be focusing on church planting and lauren will be the homeschool teacher for the kindergardener, 4th, 6th, and 10th grader. i am so proud of her for following her calling. she is an amazing woman filled with so much godly character. so if you have a minute, please pray for her.

a little over three months ago, the core group of the newspring columbia staff went on a weekend trip to visit the florence campus. all three of our families stayed at alden's parent's house (he's our campus pastor). his little boy, bryce, was close to his three month birthday. i was so excited to take these pictures because who could ask for a more perfect backdrop than grandma's house!
